This is my Reese’s Peanut Butter cup of a Substack livestream! Well done!
Two questions:
- I also posted this Ross Douthat piece in a comment on her rundown of what happened: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/21/opinion/israel-us-public-opinion.html In it he says that he thinks Israel is held to a higher standard because they and the atrocities that resulted in the state’s founding are taught as part of “our” (the U.S., the West, etc) history. I’m wondering if LSD (heh) has considered this? By appealing to “we should be held to the same standards as China or Saudi Arabia”, are we allowing ourselves to be alienated from “American” or “Western” ideals?
- LSD (heh, heh) also mentioned being looked at as an “October 8th Jew” (which will get very confusing when the High Holy Days fall on that date and the “Twice A Year Jews” like myself show up). I’m curious what her relationship to Judaism was, and currently is (no judgement here, bacon cheeseburgers are one of my favorite foods). For that matter: Jesse, what is your relationship to Judaism like? You had a question to the British guy who wrote “Jews Don’t Count” about how the only noticeable Jews were religious ones? That seems odd to me: Barbara Streisand; Groucho Marx; Elliot Gould; Richard Dreyfus; Lenny Bruce; Albert Einstein, et al. But you’re about 10 years younger than me, and maybe that makes a difference? Katie, feel free to speak of your relationship with Islam if time permits :-)
To me, it means there’s a nugget of truth to what the “decolonization”/Orientalism people say. “The soft bigotry of low expectations” is still bigotry.
And once you’re in the “out-group” it takes a lot to be placed fully into the “in-group” (and in this case,
There’s also an intentional campaign to re-“out-group” Jews to gain sympathy, if not “in-grouping” outright, for Palestinians)
But in reality, he's more of a Houthi than an American, with his support for Palestinian and Islamic terroism.
(Do any Jews who are the least bit connected to religion or Israel still read the NY Times? I dropped my subscription at the fake "Israel Bombs Hospital, Killing 500" story in late October 2023, and most of the rest of the hangers-on dropped it at the fake dog-rape story.)
1. At least one week before the stream, soak all your equipment in soapy salt water. The soap will ensure the stream is clean. The salt will make sure the 'lectrons scream.
2. The day of the stream, tumble dry all equipment on low for no more than 20 minutes (or use the wrinkle free setting if your privilege has forced such an option upon you).
3. Position the camera at around crotch level and scrunch down so that to the viewer it looks like they are servicing you or helping you search for any soon to be rare pennies you may have dropped.
4. Position your router in a neighbors house for OpSec purposes. Move yourself at least a hectare (ask Helen Lewis) away from it for optimum safety.
5. Whatever you do, do not turn any of the equipment back on until at least 3 minutes after the posted start time of the stream.
Really enjoyed this conversation. Lisa, so many of us admire you for your disagreeableness!
About the girls who know they can't speak up about the boys in their sports: I wonder what is going to happen when those girls are older. Will some of them rebel and reject this stuff? Reject other "progressive" values? Reject the adults who fed them this stuff? Like the 1960s generation that rejected the straight life but in reverse?
I saw this and I have to admit I’m scratching my head a bit. I don’t really think males are socialized to be violent toward women, at least not in the west. Women have to worry about male violence for the same reason men have to worry about male violence- males are the more violent members of the species.
If I can rearrange my schedule for Monday I will be there. Everyone else's questions will cover it. Never done this before but seems like there is a convergence happening...!

The real question is: why do they hold the Palestinians and other Muslims to lower standards?

I like these questions and have thoughts about the Douthat take. But right now I’m mostly wondering if I spelled his name correctly.
Remember: The opposite of
DOUTHAT
is
HOUTHIS
But in reality, he's more of a Houthi than an American, with his support for Palestinian and Islamic terroism.

When I was snarkier about him I’d say in my head, “Doubt That!”
How to prepare do to a BARPod live stream:
1. At least one week before the stream, soak all your equipment in soapy salt water. The soap will ensure the stream is clean. The salt will make sure the 'lectrons scream.

5. Whatever you do, do not turn any of the equipment back on until at least 3 minutes after the posted start time of the stream.
6. Stream!
I applaud Katie, a proud Muslim womynx, for having this conversation. Stunning. Brave. Praise be upon moose!

Any way, what do you people think?

Is there a way for BARPOD subscribers to watch/listen to the archive? Right now it's just available for Lisa's subscribers.
Yes, it's on the BARpod feed now.
Looking forward to this. I love Lisa!
