When she talked about former roommates who wanted her to go through "an amends process" or friends who demanded she "give an accountability statement," the first analogy that popped in my head was scientologists who are made to do a "liability formula" for not being in lock-step with the group and so "taking on the color of the enemy." Tactics like this are endemic to the human experience, for sure, whenever and wherever we form groups. But it's alarming for it to happen on such a large scale.
